Replace broken file handles without replacing the complete tool

A missing or damaged handle does not mean a good hand file needs to be thrown away.

These replacement workshop file handles are designed to fit onto the tapered tangs found on many common engineering and workshop files. Their shaped profile provides a comfortable, controlled grip while covering the exposed metal tang.

Manufactured in-house by Wards Additive, the handles have been used and tested for over 12 months in demanding CNC machining and metal fabrication workshop conditions.

They are suitable for CNC machine shops, engineering workshops, fabrication companies, garages, maintenance departments and home workshops.

Fitting the handle

1. Remove the old handle and any remaining loose material.
2. Check that the file tang is clean and undamaged.
3. Position the tapered tang centrally within the handle opening.
4. Push the handle firmly onto the tang.
5. Ensure the handle is secure and cannot twist or pull free before using the file.

For an especially tight fit, the metal tang can be warmed carefully before being pushed into the handle. Only use controlled, gentle heat. Excessive heat may soften or distort the PLA.

Compatibility

These handles are intended for common tapered tangs used on standard workshop and engineering hand files.

File tang dimensions vary between different file sizes and manufacturers. Therefore, compatibility with every hand file cannot be guaranteed. Minor adjustment to the opening may occasionally be necessary.

Always check that the handle is firmly secured before using the file.

Important safety information

Do not use a hand file with a loose, damaged or incorrectly fitted handle.

Before every use, check that the file tang is fully seated and the handle cannot twist or detach. Stop using the handle if it becomes cracked, badly worn, softened or damaged.
